All the way from Manila took around 10house by bus, we arrived at the Laoag Sand Dunes for the second day of our trip: named "let's going down from the north edge of Ilocos island to the Manila". Honestly, I wasn't supposed to share this trip, but I changed my mind because my experience of this Sand Dunes was a bit precious to share for those who look for super budget trip but want to enjoy sand dunes.

(Kuya brought us to the sand dunes by his bike)

The standard price you can refer on the web is 2500peso for a tour. For us this time, just 500peso.

On the internet, you can find blogs saying the general price for the tour: good for 4 to 5 people including the fee of van rental, sand board rental, guide, and lecture of sand boarding, is 2500 peso (500peso each if you divide into 5 people).

For our case, the first conductor we called required us 2000peso for two even after they gave us a discount because of our people number.

It's my policy never give up when it comes about money. We continued to call and negotiate with our requirement: ①driver for back and forth to the sand dunes ②sand surfing ③watching san-set.
Luckily, we found a org "LEAD Movement" accepted us and charged just 500peso for two yeah.

the point here for super budget trip is....

Just negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate! and you could get something good beyond the internet.

2014 / MassKara festival 2014 in Bacolod "a smile city"

In 1960, people in Bacolod have faced the difficulty by the collapsed of sugar industry, which is one of their main industry.
Did people get negative? No, they started this festival with the big purpose of getting Bacolod and it's people arose from the difficulty.
It seems their smily mask, colorful costume and street dances with them show us their strong passion to get over the difficulty by smiling.

There are several contents in MassKara festival; one of them is "Crown Parade", which each groups show their crafted big dolls. Although the street dance with masks is generally known more, I would like to introduce this Crown Parade for this time because it touched me stronger in different way personally.

Like this picture, each groups and their crafted giant dolls parade through the street.

It looks very blight and fun when you see mask parade on the picture, but in fact, many dancers looked not fun, but fight because they continued dancing almost on the urge of dehydration.
On the other hand, all the people even audiences for Crown Parade laughed a lot and looked much fun. (the grandma in the central is an audience lol)

As it is commonly said "Filipino Smile", this festival seems to show the spirit of them "Get over the difficulty by smiling". For me, the Crown Parade is more like that sprit.

Ateneo de Manila University is known for one of the top universities leading the Philippines.
It's clean, high techniques can be seen a lot, and students are fashionable you may not be able to imagine after walking in the outside areas. It's a condensation of development of the Philippines, so that it can be said the best place to study and spend your precious university life.
Here's what you can meet in there called one of the best university in the Philippines, from the view point of a Japanese exchange student.

①Traffic jam inside the campus during rush hours / キャンパス内での車の渋滞
Because many of the students in Ateneo are high class, they commute to the school by their own car and it leads the huge traffic jam.

②VISA extension is done at the university office  /  なぜかビザ更新は学内で
Unlike other universities in Manila, Ateneo requires exchange students to extend tourist visa every month not student visa. You have to pay around 3000peso each month to the OIR office governing all exchange students.

You can move among each buildings by tricycle which is like a bike taxi. Many of the students use this in order to avoid suffering from a scorching sun. (sometimes you have to wake them up first)

There is no limitation or manual for their hospitality. Many of Atenean are using this place to engage own work. Go many and let them remember your name so that you would freak commuting this cafe.

⑤The full of greens on the campus / 緑溢れる..
Because Ateneo was built in a place used be a mountain, there are plenty of remaining greens inside the campus. The air is totally different than outside so that you could live healthy.

You can't speak out the Philippines without Mango shake. Only 30peso($0.7) for the size this guy holds. Try it in the morning before you going to the class and wake you up!

⑦A lot of sudden canceled class / 急な休講が多い
It is quite often happened in Ateneo and also other universities in the Philippines. Be patient, be positive for everything.

Because the Philippines is tropical island, Philipino always seek the super cold environment to feel the happiness by the difference of temperature.

⑨Stop walking, and listen national song every morning / 立ち止まり、国歌を聞く
At every 8:50am, the Philippines national song is floated up from the big speaker. I recommend you to stop walking during the time in order not to be awkward.

⑩Party on every Thursday at DTH / 毎週木曜はDTHでパーティー
Every Thursday, there is a party organized by residents of Dream Team House, where many of exchange students mainly from Europe live together. Also, ASEC, an student organization of Ateneo engaging to make a chance for Atenean to have international exchanges, organizes many events at this place.
